A ten-day event to affirm and generate Peace and Light at a time when the world seems overwhelmed by violence, climate crisis, and despair. All are invited to join artists, community organizations, and others in asserting a common hope for a better world.

Come to experience Mouvement Perpétuel’s ‘1001 Lights’ - an impressionistic three-channel video and audio installation conceived by filmmakers, Marlene Millar and Philip Szporer, revealing the intimate and life-affirming quality of the Sabbath candle-lighting ceremony. The work was created over the course of several months as 100 women of all ages from across Montreal’s diverse Jewish community were filmed sharing their spiritual practice.

Each evening during the ten-days, participants also can participate in other activities, events, performances and conversations led by artists and community groups.

The piece was created with the support of the Museum of Jewish Montréal and Montréal en Lumière, in response to Philip Szporer and Marlene Millar’s video installation, 1001 Lights. Lucy Fandel is a dance artist and cultural mediator based in Tiohtià:ke / Montreal.

Candlelight Labyrinth
A self-guided walk of reflection invites your own contemplation and prayer on --and action for-- Peace and Light in the world. A labyrinth is an ancient spiritual tool designed to foster contemplation and spiritual transformation. Labyrinths are cross-cultural and ancient, having part of human society for more than 4000 years.

Climate Justice Poetry Workshop
Engage your thoughts and feelings about the climate crisis on a deep level, and express them in new way. Absolutely no prior experience writing (or even reading) poetry required. In this participatory workshop, artists and writers guide us through "erasure poetry", "found poetry" and "the anti-poem."

A Cappella Jam
Niki Andre is a singer-songwriter, spoken word artist and facilitator collaborating with communities and organizations to create intercultural, beloved community-building gatherings. Niki Andre starts with a group of people, no matter whether they are confident singers or too-shy-to-sing-in-the-shower, and by the end of the session molds them into a beautiful instrument singing beautiful and community changing harmonies and poetry.

A Renewed Canadian Welcome
Book Launch Tour
This event is a collaboration between Citizens for Public Justice (CPJ) and Institut d’étude et de recherche théologique en interculturalité, migration et mission (IERTIMM). At a precarious time for refugee and migrant rights in Canada, panelists from CPJ and IERTIMM host an evening of dialogue and sharing with particular lenses of the Quebec experience. A Renewed Canadian Welcome brings together the voices of those who experience the system firsthand to ask a question fundamental to public justice: What would our immigration policies look like if they were reimagined from a human rights perspective, informed by lived experience? Blending personal narrative with sharp policy critique, this book unpacks topics such as refugee resettlement, immigration detention, labour exploitation, and family separation.
